A Reddit user by the name of u/mattbatwings2 has gone that extra step in Minecraft by building a ginormous and fully-functional version of the classic block game Tetris. What’s even more impressive about this is they have built the entire thing using redstone, an element in the open world that allows players to string circuits together to create moveable structures.

The user uploaded a video of their Tetris creation which shows a huge screen with a scoreboard next to it. They’ve even gone to the trouble of adding a NEXT display which shows what block will be coming down after the current one. The video is impressive, particularly as it shows that the game is playable, even deleting lines when blocks fit together, just like in the real thing. It has controls to one side which operate the system. It’s also just about possible to see the redstone circuitry that’s gone into building the game-within-a-game. Enormously complex lines of the red element seemingly run through a gauntlet of connections and switches that have gone into making the incredible build.

As one of the most famous games in history, there are a slew of Tetris clones that have been made over the years. While many have sought to imitate the simple beauty of the original, some have attempted to improve on the format, or at least update the game to bring it into the modern era. However, not many people have had the skill and tenacity to build a virtual version inside an already existing world.

For anyone who is interested in seeing the game in person, u/mattbatwings2 has made the world available for download. Making such huge and complicated creations in Minecraft does take time and effort, requiring a lot of redstone material in the first instance. While the Reddit user didn’t specify exactly how long it took them to build the Minecraft-esque Tetris game, it’s likely to have taken them a good few weeks at least. When asked in the comments, they reiterated that they built it using redstone and did not implement the use of any command blocks. That arguably makes it ever more impressive.
