A Reddit user known as 1nsinuating has posted a wide-angle image from Minecraft which shows their reconstruction of the Elven town of Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings, where the fellowship gather to inform the council. The image depicts the town from a distance, showing keen attention to detail, with the mountains encircling the build. The image is complete with some added effects rendered in Blender, such as rising fog, to really sell the quality of the construction. The user said it took them three to four weeks to complete the project.

Many in the thread have praised the work that 1nsinuating has put into the replica. One person asked whether this Minecraft reimagining was actually built by the fan or whether they took a photo, to which they replied that they had used the movies for a lot of references. Another inquired as to whether it was possible to have a version of the map to download, to which it became apparent that the creator was indeed selling it, likely on the Minecraft marketplace.
They also added that they did get some help from some third-party software, which is a common practice in creating large, painstakingly accurate, projects in the game. When asked, 1nsinuating said they had help from WorldEdit and Voxelsniper which is used to make insane sculptures in Minecraft. The fact that they used additional software to help with the build does not detract from the sheer skill, effort, and time that has gone into recreating Rivendell. It’s perhaps even more incredible as the whole thing was constructed in the vanilla version of the game, so no mods were used.
The fan base is full of creative and talented individuals who are keen to showcase their projects. Someone even went as far as to build a perfect circle in Minecraft, which just goes to show the lengths people will go to really push the limits of what’s possible in the game.
Minecraft is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
