As of today, Minecraft now supports Ray Tracing for systems with RTX capable video cards, a next gen lighting technique that makes the game look absolutely gorgeous. It should be noted, however, that this is only available on the Windows 10 version of Minecraft, none of the console or mobile versions can make use of this feature.

Of course, the use of ray tracing tends to bog down the game quite a bit, lowering frame rates dramatically. That said, with a powerful enough system, the game should still be playable, especially when considering that Minecraft doesn’t require an excessively high frame rate.

The best way to decide whether or not to use ray tracing in Minecraft is to try it for oneself. The video above gives a good idea of how the new update affects the visuals of Minecraft, but there’s no substitution for seeing it with one’s own eyes.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
