Known in the YouTube sphere for their interesting Minecraft videos, Mysticat’s latest video shows them attempting to change up the way the game looks by using a number of AI resources. In doing so, they add in new textures, music, a skin for their avatar, and even individual sound effects, all of which have been generated by an algorithm. The result is pretty interesting and even a little unsettling in one or two instances. The AI visuals are actually pretty close to just being a standard texture pack, and the music itself feels generally authentic.

It’s the character models for the animals that really show the limitation of artificial intelligence even in this day and age, with the faces of sheep and cows looking a little wonky. Even the new way they sound is a little bit eerie. For anyone who enjoys modding or wants to inject something different into their world, there are plenty of fantastic Minecraft textures and mods out there. However, this may be the first instance of someone attempting to recreate nearly all aspects of the game entirely through AI.
Anyone who subscribes to Mysticat’s channel knows that they are capable of some really unique projects in Mojang’s blocky game. Everything from creating a working Minecraft tank to large versions of classic games, such as Frogger, has found their way onto their channel, and no doubt there will be more ideas being cooked up by the content creator.
This also ties in with the recent trend of using AI to create some meme-like images that have been doing the rounds on social media channels. One person used the image generator DALL-E Mini to create RDR2’s Arthur Morgan in the style of Metal Gear Solid. Some of what gets churned out can be pretty funny or even a little creepy, but it shows that artificial intelligence has advanced over the years, and it will be interesting to see whether a whole game can be made this way.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
