Like the previous 3 seasons, End Times is shuffling up the show’s main cast once again into entirely new roles. However, the trend of keeping Geraldine Viswanathan and the outspoken Daniel Radcliffe front and center remains constant, as the pair now plays a newly-married couple trying to live a comfortable life in the wasteland. Don’t worry, other series mainstays like Steve Buscemi are back as well, maintaining Miracle Workers in that satisfying “different but familiar” territory that keeps fans coming back for more.

The official TBS YouTube channel posted the trailer for Miracle Workers: End Times, along with a brief synopsis to entice viewers. “In a post-apocalyptic future, a wasteland warrior (Daniel Radcliffe) and a ruthless warlord (Geraldine Viswanathan) face the most dystopian nightmare of all settling down in the suburbs.” Sid (Radcliffe) and Freya (Viswanathan) are seen meeting in battle and subsequently getting hitched, leaving the rest of the trailer to establish their story of just trying to get by. Other series regulars can also be seen, with Buscemi playing a business owner who apparently hires Sid, Karan Soni as an unidentified character, and Jon Bass as human pet “Scraps the Dog.”
This unexpected and hilarious twist on the classically devastating apocalypse story formula feels right at home for Miracle Workers. Previous seasons saw similar takes on life in the Dark Ages and traveling the Oregon Trail. Meanwhile, season 1 played things a little more straight with its premise of punch clock angels trying to convince God (played brilliantly by Buscemi) not to destroy Earth out of boredom. The throughline for the show appears to be telling stories in different time periods through a modern lens, and trying to fit a middle-class suburbia setting into a post-apocalyptic hellscape definitely fits the bill.
The series seems to still maintain its penchant for pairing up Radcliffe and Viswanathan, usually in a romantic sense, which is always welcome given their excellent chemistry throughout the seasons. But End Times appears to be skipping all the lead-up in favor of bringing them together right at the start. There’s a reason that many of the best couples in media often get together early on and develop their relationship throughout the story. The courtship can be fun, but their actual life together is often far more interesting and satisfying.
Miracle Workers: End Times isn’t very far off now, so anyone interested might want to check out the previous seasons of this TBS hidden gem while they can. It’s not necessarily required, but this is a show definitely worth watching for any comedy fans out there.
