On the Rocks With a Twist

Whatever happened to the nasty divorce? Suddenly acrimony and alimony are out. Dinner and a movie are in. When Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi announced last week that they were ending their two-year-old marriage, the star of “Suddenly Susan” and the tennis champ gave no reason for their split. In fact, it hardly sounded like they were splitting up at all. In a joint statement they swore to remain “the best of friends.”

At least that sounded like a farewell. When Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra announced the end of their six-month-old marriage last week, they wouldn’t even say goodbye. “They’re going to keep dating,” says a source close to Rodman. “They didn’t do that enough before they said ‘I do’.” The Rodmans seem to think things will improve once they’re divorced, because “they’ll be more comfortable without so many eyes watching them.” As if we’d really stop.

Camp Counselor

As MTV’s first I wanna be a VJ contest winner, Jesse Camp was a riot of mumbled monologues, outrageous outfits and gravity-defying hair. NEWSWEEK asked him to advise the Jesse wanna-bes in this year’s contest, winding up this week: “It’s all about just being a crazy rock-and-roller. We took a trip in the MTV car service, trying to go to Florida. When the driver called to make sure it was OK, we had made it to Baltimore. I got put on limo-service suspension for a month. I said, ‘I didn’t know! I thought she said Miami was in New Jersey’.” Playing dumb is always best.
