Fortunately, she has some help. Her strongest ally is probably her sister Waverly Earp. So, therefore, there is a sibling relationship at the center of the story, just like in Supernatural. Wynonna will probably be loved by fans of Dean for her snark and sarcasm. In contrast, Sam’s fans might be more drawn to Waverly’s friendly nature. And Waverly is not Wynonna’s only ally. There’s also Doc Holliday, Xavier Dolls, Jeremy Chetri, and Nicole Haught. Wynonna Earp definitely has something for everyone. So why not give it a chance? It might just surprise some Supernatural fans with how good it is.

Wynonna Earp is absolutely an ensemble show, yet Wynonna and Waverly are also at the forefront. Wynonna is rather a lone wolf, at least she seems to be in the beginning. Yet as time goes on, her shell cracks. She needs people in her life, just as everyone does. Wynonna is strong and capable, yet she’s also got a good heart. As much as she might sometimes try to hide it, Wynonna cares. Waverly, on the other hand, is much more of a heart on her sleeve type. Yet, she is no less strong for that. She is intelligent, caring, and brave. Waverly is also part of a fan-favorite couple, known affectionately to fans as Wayhaught. She also stands on her own very well and is an interesting character in her own right.

Both Earp sisters are intriguing characters, yet they are not the only ones the show follows. Doc Holliday is a friend of Wyatt Earp’s who survived due to a curse of his own. He is also a strong ally and occasional love interest for Wynonna. Xavier Dolls is a member of a secret government agency called the Black Badge Division who is sent to investigate what’s happening in Purgatory, where Wynonna lives. He is also sometimes a love interest for Wynonna. Jeremy Chetri is also an agent of the Black Badge Division. He is nerdy and sweet and becomes a true friend to Wynonna and Waverly. Nicole Haught is, as some Supernatural fans might have guessed, the other half of Wayhaught. She is a police officer in the Purgatory Sheriff’s Department. She develops feelings for Waverly early on in the show, feelings which are eventually returned, luckily for fans.

Wayhaught is a couple that might appeal to some Supernatural fans, especially those who wanted Dean and Castiel to get together. Overall, Wynonna Earp might appeal to Supernatural fans, especially those who are fans of the fantasy genre in general. Even those who don’t usually like the genre might be drawn in by Wynonna and Waverly’s stories. Wynonna Earp is somewhat like Supernatural, except it is also different enough to stand out. Especially with its well-written female characters at the forefront and canon LGBTQ+ couples. Yes, couples. Jeremy is LGBTQ+ as well and is at one point in a relationship with another man named Robin. They even spend some time with Waverly and Nicole. Both couples are fan-favorite ones, but of course, one can’t forget Wynonna. Wynonna’s love life is, however, rather complicated.  She dates Dolls and Doc and some other men too.

However, don’t worry, this article won’t spoil who she chooses in the end for new fans. Both men definitely have their charms, and Wynonna Earp is made better by their presence, as is Wynonna herself. Wynonna is also an intriguing character in her own right and can stand on her own. Yet, she is changed and grows based on her interactions with others. And that is all that fans can ask for from a well-written character like Wynonna.

So, Supernatural fans, why not give Wynonna Earp a shot? Of course, it won’t be a viable alternative for everyone, yet it is a great show. It deserves some more hype. The show does have its – very passionate – fan base, of course. Yet there can never be too many people appreciating a good show. And Wynonna Earp is definitely a good show, one well worth the binge-watch on Netflix.
