Players take on the role of a spawn of authority and must navigate their way through the twisted hallways and rooms to uncover the reason why the station fell to such ruin. With multiple things to explore and sporting a large array of weapons as well as enemies, players can sink hours into this cosmic horror RPG experience. Despite being similar to titles such as Dark Souls,Nioh, and Elden Ring, the game has several unique mechanisms and tricks up its sleeves to keep players on their toes. Mistakes can be fatal, but the quicker players recognize the error of their ways, the faster they’ll be able to kick some demonic alien rump.
5 Not Exploring Everything
Exploration in Hellpoint is essential. The game is shrouded in mystery and hides many secrets. Players need to check their corners and get up to the higher ground to uncover secret passages that can be easily missed. Players will notice that getting to the bosses isn’t difficult at all and beginning boss fights can be a breeze should players solely focus on them.
However, this is not recommended as the game offers so much more if players explore off the beaten path. Should players decide to not explore, they will likely miss out on additional gear such as weapons, armor, and other resources for upgrades.
4 Cycling Through Too Many Weapons
Whilst the game doesn’t limit players to just using one weapon, there can be big bonuses for sticking to one. The more a player uses a particular weapon, the more bonuses and passives will be unlocked for said weapon. Additional moves and attacks can also be acquired, giving the player more move sets and flexibility during combat.
As players gain more upgrades, they can select their preferred moves or stances on their respective controllers (it is recommended to play using a controller). This means that players should find a weapon they enjoy using and stick with it to enjoy the bonuses that can be unlocked the more they use it. Players may be tempted by more powerful gear that is different from what they’re currently using, but it’s still important to remember to use the weapon that offers the greatest advantages.
3 Not Using Secondary Options
As players progress through the game, they will soon have the option to wield a gun or a shield. Players will fortunately not have to pick between these options as they will be able to equip more than one option for each hand and then switch between them.
Instead of adopting one style of eliminating enemies, players should switch up combat by using a ranged weapon from a distance and then swap to a shield to finish off the enemy (or vice versa).
2 Making Bad Choices For Stat Points
Like many games, deciding where your stats should go is an important facet when it comes to leveling up. Not everything has to be perfect but spending some of them in the right places can help the player. What’s extremely important to consider is energy (represented by the blue bar), which is represented by the Stamina stat. If players don’t invest in this stat, they’ll soon realize that they won’t have the upper hand during key moments. Health is equally important as the game features several areas with enemy mobs that will swarm the player which means having a bigger health bar will make engagements ‘easier’.
Once players figure out their preferred weapon, they can then invest stats in Strength or Reflex accordingly to increase their damage output. However, survivability in the early game should be the main focus as improving the chances of keeping a character alive is crucial to progress through the game.
1 Ignoring The Omnicube
The Omnicube is a special type of item within the game. It has its unique item slot and will allow players to load up to 3 different Omnicube programs. These programs will aid the players throughout the game as examples of the programs include leaving bread trail behind the player for easier navigation when traversing through levels or equipping the player with a flashlight.
Programs can be found throughout levels (hence why exploration is very important) and with the Omnicube, players can then enhance their characters with upgraded utilities and items. The cube does have limitations as only one cube can be activated at any given time. It can be found in the Embassy area after defeating the Archon Slaver boss or by communicating with the Author in the terminal found in the next room.
Hellpoint is available on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
