A game like Trek to Yomi is filled with challenges, gameplay diversity, and depth, however, these aspects also mean many players continue to make mistake after mistake while playing. Players must venture across the Feudal Japan setting to stop the bandits, samurais, and bloodthirsty baddies that seek to ruin the people’s way of life. 5 Change The Difficulty When Necessary
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with changing a game’s difficulty when it gives players the option to do so. In the case of Trek to Yomi, there are three difficulty modes to choose from, Kabuki, Bushido, and Master. Each difficulty stands for Easy, Medium, and Hard respectively. The game lets players choose the right one for them right from the outset.
Many players completely forget that the difficulty can be changed freely at any point from the “gameplay” options menu. The difficulty scales in the areas of health and stamina depletion. Given that players can save all progress and replenish health and stamina at the plethora of shines, there is no penalty to scaling the difficulty up or down depending on what experience players want.
4 Completely Forgetting To Counter The Enemy’s Attacks
Trek to Yomi isn’t a particularly punishing game, at least on the Kabuki (Easy) or Bushido (Medium) difficulty modes, however, it’s encouraged to use each and every skill the game throws to the players through the various chapters. One such move is that of the counter. Countering essentially means Hiroki can block an enemy’s attack to open up a brief window to attack them. Countering then leads to the various parry moves that unlock as players progress.

Most players tend to forget about countering and instead just go in flailing their sword in hopes of dealing some damage. While this “tactic” might work on the lesser bandits, it certainly won’t hold true with armored bandits or bosses. Take time to get to grips with countering so that each attack of the enemy’s sword can be dealt with successfully.
3 Exploring Off The Beaten Path
Trek to Yomi is a mostly linear game, taking place across multiple diverse locations all set in various chapters. Despite the game’s overall linearity, there are still plenty of hidden or secret areas that players can discover if they take the time to scry them out. The game even tells players early on in the game to keep an eye out for locations off the beaten path.
So many players just take the central linear route in hopes of getting through the game. However, doing this means losing out on top-notch rewards, lore details, and villagers to assist. For example, stamina and health upgrades can typically only be found by exploring hidden houses or rooms. Similarly, certain powerful skills can only be found in these undiscovered areas.
2 Sprinting And Dodging Can Be A Life Saver
One of the easiest skills most players forget about in Trek to Yomi is sprinting, closely followed by the dodge roll once that skill is unlocked. Sprinting is taught to Hiroki very early on in the game, however, many people forget to use it given that Hiroki already moves swiftly through the various self-contained locations. However, sprinting is a good tactic to consider when dealing with multiple bandits at once, especially prior to unlocking more countering and parrying moves.

Completely forgetting to use the sprint and dodge roll moves can spell devastation in many more challenging fights. While not altogether necessary, these two skills keep Hiroki more nimble and agile, able to get out of harm’s way in a rapid fashion. Plus, the game even gives players a dodge roll attack in Chapter 2 which can really help during the tougher battles with samurais and armored bandits.
1 Utilizing The Powerful Finishing Moves
Easily one of the most fun combat aspects in Trek to Yomi are the host of finishers that players learn about towards the end of Chapter 1 and into the beginning of Chapter 2. Finishers are uber-powerful one-hit moves that devastate an opponent in a violent and victorious fashion. However, many players completely forget about these moves since they are quite difficult to pull off, mostly because an enemy needs to first be stunned properly.
In order to successfully perform a finisher on a baddie, players must learn the stun skill that sees the player performing two quick sword attacks followed by a heavy attack. This stamina-independent attack puts the enemy into a stunned state which then means they can be killed with a finisher. Finishers look downright incredible and are chosen at random depending on the in-game circumstances. Don’t be one of those Trek to Yomi players that forget about these exciting skill moves.
